FAQ

  • Warranty

    • What is the purpose of my Southwest Exteriors Warranty?

Most manufacturer warranties cover the cost of any necessary product replacement and not the any labor that is required to complete the repair. The SWE warranty serves to prevent any additional costs incurred from labor on manufacturer covered warranty claims.

    • Do I need to need to reapply caulk to windows, doors or siding?

Due to warm climate, caulk does wear overtime and should be reapplied every 10-15 years or when you notice that the caulk is dry, cracked or missing.

    • Is reapplying caulk covered under my warranty?

Product caulking is considered preventative maintenance that should be conducted by the homeowner and therefore is not covered under our warranty. However, if we determine that caulk was not appropriately applied during installation, we are more than happy to make it right. Additionally, if caulking is just worn due to normal aging, SWE will come out and repair it for the cost of our labor and materials.

    • Am I covered under any Manufacturer warranty in addition to the Southwest Exteriors Warranty?

SWE works with several different manufacturers who each have their own warranties. At the time of your final walk-thru, your project manager will give you information on your specific product warranty.

    • Do I need to register my product to utilize the manufacturer warranty?

In most cases manufacturers require that your product be registered. However, as service to you, if product registration is required, SWE will handle this on your behalf.

    • My paint/stain is fading, is this covered under warranty?

Paint can fade as a result of the harsh Texas sun and therefore the normal ware is not covered. There are some times where issues with paint may be covered under the manufacturer warranty, but to be sure, it is best to reach out to SWE for assistance.

    • My windows/doors are no longer shutting properly, is this a warranty claim?

The reason a window or door is not shutting properly could be because of a variety of things, however most commonly is due to the shifting of the ground which is common in our area. Southwest Exteriors will come out and assess the situation to determine the cause. If it is because of improper installation or manufacturer defect, this will be covered. But, if the issue is due to foundation shifting, SWE will be happy to repair it but it is not covered under warranty.

  • Exterior Painting

    • How much will it cost to paint my home’s exterior?

It can cost anywhere between $3,000-6,000 to paint 1,200 square ft. of your home’s exterior. This cost depends on the square footage of your project, difficulty of the area, condition of your siding, the paint color, and the quality of the contractor and installation.

    • How long will it take to paint my home’s exterior?

It takes about 5 days to fully complete an exterior paint project for an average, single-story home. However, no project is the same. The time it takes to complete your project all depends on the size of the project and difficulty of the areas to be painted. For example, a two-story home with lots of corners, gables, and rakes will take longer to paint than a single-story home with a simple, square layout.

    • How do I choose the right color for my home exterior?

With Southwest Exteriors, you can schedule a free, 90-minute color consultation with a color specialist to help you choose the right color pallet for your home.

    • What kind of siding can you paint?

We can paint almost all types of siding, like vinyl, brick, or cement. Wood can typically be painted as long as it is not severely deteriorated or rotted. Aluminum siding can be painted, but the lifetime of the warranty will be shorter than other sidings.

    • What kind of paint do you use?

We use Sherwin-Williams Duration Loxon primer and topcoat.

  • Siding

    • How much will a siding replacement cost?

A James Hardie fiber cement siding replacement can cost around $44,000-54,000. The cost of your siding replacement depends on the size of the project, material of siding, condition of your current wall/siding, and customizations.

    • Do you have to remove my existing siding, or can you put new siding on top?

If there is any deterioration, rotting, or swelling in the siding, it must be removed to place the new siding. If your existing siding is in good condition with no damage, it can be used as the substrate, or underneath, the top siding in place of the oriented strand board which is what Southwest Exteriors uses as substrate.

    • Can you patch up a part of my siding?

With Southwest Exteriors, we only do full-scale siding replacements and do not patch up small areas of damaged siding.

    • Do you offer any other type of siding besides James Hardie?

At Southwest Exteriors, we only offer James Hardie products because they are the highest quality siding products on the market.

    • How long does Hardie siding last?

When installed properly and under Hardie’s best practices, Hardie siding can last 30-50 years on your home. However, if it is not installed properly, the siding can fail in as little as a month.

    • How much does a window replacement cost?

The cost to replace one 3 ft. x 5 ft. window can range anywhere from $300-3,000 depending on the window and installation type. If you are looking to replace your window yourself, you can find replacement windows at a local hardware store for less than $300. However, a professional window replacement will range more in the thousands to replace one standard s ft. x 5 ft. window. The cost of your window replacement project will depend on the window type, size, quality of the window, quality of the installation, and warranty.

    • Why is there such a wide range of pricing?

The range of cost for replacement windows all comes down to quality. A low-quality window is going to be low-cost just as a high-quality window is going to be a higher cost.

Less expensive windows typically also have a lower lifespan. When you pay for a higher quality window, you’re paying for it to last.

    • How long will it take to install my new windows?

Generally, one installation crew can install 10-15 windows in one day. However, this depends on the size of the windows and the degree of difficulty of the window. For example, a window on a second or third story of a home will take longer to replace than a window on a first floor.

    • How do I choose the right window for me?

When shopping for replacement windows, you must consider your budget, goals, wants, and needs for your project. Asking yourself the right questions, like how energy efficient you want your windows to be, how long you want them to last, and how durable you want them to be, is crucial to finding the right window for you. Our expert design consultants can help guide you to the right window type and style.

    • What is the maximum door size you can do?

With Southwest Exteriors, we can install an entry door as wide as 42 in. and as tall as 10 ft.  For sliding doors, we can install a door from 5 ft. to 20 ft. long and up to 10 ft. tall.
