When looking for replacement windows, the first thing on your mind is most likely how they will look and function. Making sure a window will fit your style and perform the way you need it to is crucial. 

We will first look at what the ProVia Aeris window is made of, then dive into each design element and customization options. 

Material and design of the ProVia Aeris window

The ProVia Aeris window is one of their higher-end windows. It is made with a natural wood interior and a SunShield vinyl exterior. This is called a clad window. 

A clad window is best if you are looking for that classic wood look on the interior without the added maintenance of a wood exterior. 

The vinyl exterior is made by a company called Deceuninck. Their SunShield vinyl material is one of the most durable vinyl available, able to withstand harsh weather conditions like intense cold and heat. The SunShield also has exceptional color retention. 

This is a key quality to highlight in this window, especially if you live in areas with intense heat, as we do in South Texas. 

If you are looking for that traditional wood interior but want an exterior that requires little maintenance, then the ProVia Aeris window may be for you. Let’s look at some more of the design options for this window. 

Customizable elements of the window

Knowing that you can customize your window to your exact liking is important. While ProVia offers standard design options for each element of the window, having the option to make it uniquely yours is always a plus. 

We will look at the design options and customizations for the window shape, finishes, hardware, and grills/grids.

Window shape

The ProVia Aeris window can come in 6 different shapes: double-hung, slider, casement and awning, picture, bay and bow, and various shapes. 

Double-hung and single-hung windows are probably two of the most popular types of windows, so it is important to note that this window does not come as single-hung. 

With the shaped windows, there are 11 different shapes to choose from to fit the area of your window. However, you cannot customize the shape of a window. 

Color and finish options

There are three finish options for the interior wood: oak, cherry, or maple. There are 16 shades of wood stains between these three finish options that you can choose from, including colors like truffle, caramel, coffee bean, and natural. 

You can also have your interior wood frame painted. ProVia offers a wide selection of paint color options, from natural tans to vibrant purples. You can view more in their Color Lookbook. 

You can also choose a custom paint color for your interior. All you need is to provide ProVia with a sample swatch of Sherwin-Williams paint. Depending on your contractor, they may provide the custom color. 

For the exterior vinyl frame, you can choose any color you like from ProVia’s color collection, like sterling gray or Vallis red, or request a custom color. 

Factory-applied paint colors do not fade easily as they have UV and heat-reflecting properties. 

Hardware options

There are six different hardware finishes and two styles available for the ProVia Aeris window. 

For double-hung and slider windows, the lock type is a simple tilt latch that moves from right to left. For casement windows, the latch pulls out and twists to open the window. 

With each of these types of latches, there are six finishes to choose from: white, beige, sandstone, antique brass, satin nickel, and flat bronze. 

Your finish options are limited to these six standard colors, and ProVia offers a suggestion chart to help you choose the finish that will best match the color of your window. 

Divided lite options

The divided lites on a window refer to the style for the grid system. Typically, for divided lites, you can have a raised bevel detail on the grid, a smooth finish, or the grid between the panes of the glass. 

For the ProVia Aeris window, you can choose between a simulated divided lite, where the grid pattern is on the exterior of the glass, or an internal grid, where the grid pattern is between the glass panes. 

External grids are beveled and can be painted or stained to match your window frame. 

Internal grids can either be contoured, flat, pencil, which can come in satin nickel, brass, bronze finishing, or v-groove, where the four grid lines connect with a v-shaped groove in the center. 

There are three types of grid patterns you can choose from. Cottage is a 4x4 grid pattern on both the top and bottom sash. Colonial is a 2x3 grid pattern on the top and bottom sash. Prairie has two grid lines bordering the top and bottom of the sash and left and right sides to create a small square in each corner. 

Although you cannot customize the grid pattern of your window, these three simple and classic designs are versatile for any window. 

Glass coatings, tints, and customizations

You can also add a patterned coating to your window for added privacy and style. There are

Bronze, gray, green, and blue tints are also available to add to the UV protection of the window. 

If you want to add beautiful and intricate art to an accent window, you can also customize a glass pattern. Flowers, geometric shapes, or detailed vines are just a few of the options available. This makes the ProVia Aeris window the perfect window to spruce up any room.

How does the ProVia Aeris window operate?

The ease of operation of your window is an important part of the design and functionality. The style of window you choose will affect how the window moves and operates. 

Because of the craftsmanship of the ProVia Aeris window, there is no questioning how easy it is to open and close the window. No matter the style of window, you will have no problem opening and closing the window.

Double-hung and single-hung windows allow you to not only slide the sashes up and down but tilt them inwards. This makes it very easy for you to clean the outside of your window and keep it looking fresh. 

Casement windows typically have a crank locking mechanism that opens the window outward. Picture windows do not open at all. 

It may be more difficult to clean the outside of a casement or picture window on a second story, but these styles are beautiful to showcase the scenery and let in the natural light. 

How durable is the ProVia Aeris window?

How energy efficient is the ProVia Aeris window?

When talking about energy efficiency, there are technical measurements that tell us how much external heat is blocked from coming into your home. We will define those terms here. 

U-Factor

This measures how well a window can insulate. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the U-Factor for windows generally ranges from 0.20 – 1.20.

The more your window can insulate, the better your house will keep heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer.

The ProVia Aeris has a U-Factor of 0.27.

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC)

This measures the amount of solar heat that comes through a window, ranging from 0 – 1. The U.S. Department of Energy’s consumer resource, Energy Saver, says the lower the SHGC, the less heat from the sun comes through a window, helping your home to stay cool during a hot summer (and fall and spring if you’re in Texas).

The ProVia Aeris has an SHGC rating of 0.21.

Air Infiltration Rating

This measures “how many cubic feet of air passes through a window per minute in relation to the size of the window,” according to a blog post by window manufacturer Marvin. They recommend that a window have numbers lower than 0.30 cubic feet per meter (cfm)/ft2.

Just like heat rays passing through a window, the air infiltration rating has to do with insulation. The better your window is insulated, the less air will come and go as it pleases into your home.

The ProVia Aeris has an air infiltration rating less than 0.20 cfm/ft.2

All of these measurements combined ultimately determine how energy efficient a window will be. 

Reviewing the warranty of the ProVia Aeris window

The warranty of your new window is the final characteristic to review. If something breaks or is defective in your window, you want to know what the manufacturer will provide. 

ProVia offers a limited lifetime warranty for as long as you live in your home. This covers manufacturing defects for a lifetime. 

The window frame and basic hardware are covered for a lifetime. Interior paints and stains and interior blinds are covered for 10 years. Glass breakage due to manufacturing defects is covered for a lifetime. 

If something breaks in your window and is warranted under the contract, ProVia will repair the broken part or provide a replacement product.
