Whether you’ve noticed some cracked, chipped, or peeling paint on your home or just want to change up its appearance, one of the first things you’re probably wondering is how much it costs to paint the exterior of your home.

Painting your home’s exterior may seem like a simple project you may even consider doing yourself. Even if you hire a painter for your project, you’re probably thinking, “How much is this going to cost?”

Finding the right contractor for your exterior paint project can be difficult. You must find a company that will meet your standards, goals, and budget for your project.

Because cost is typically top of mind for many homeowners when it comes to home remodeling, it would be nice to know how much a contractor will cost before wasting your time and effort meeting with them, right?

That’s exactly what we’re going to talk about today: How much does it cost to paint the exterior of your home with Southwest Exteriors?

Southwest Exteriors has been an exterior home remodeling contractor in San Antonio since 1989. Home exterior painting is one of our specialty services. We have crafted our installation processes and techniques to provide you with a new, high-quality exterior paint that will last on your home.

Now, we know we are not the least expensive contractor on the market. We price our services on the quality of the paint products we offer as well as the expert installation and services that come with it.

We also know that we are not the right contractor for everyone solely based on price. So, we want to provide as much information about our pricing beforehand so you can feel more comfortable and confident about working with us or not.

This article will outline how much it costs to paint your home’s exterior with Southwest Exteriors. We will also specify what is included in that cost and how it can affect the overall price.

After reading, you will have a better idea of what your exterior painting project will cost and better understand if we are the right contractor.

How much does it cost to paint your home’s exterior with Southwest Exteriors?

If you’re looking to have your home’s exterior repainted, Southwest Exteriors offers more than just repainting your siding. We can also paint garage doors, exterior doors, soffit, fascia, and other areas.

For an average-sized home with 23 total squares of exterior painting, or 2,300 ft.2, the starting cost is $11,771. The starting cost for your project could be anywhere from $8,000 and up, but this cost is strictly based upon certain bounds we will outline.

To help you understand what you’re paying for, we’ll outline the bounds of this price and what all is included.

The specified price includes 2,300 ft.2 of area painted. This square footage consists of:

  • Two exterior doors painted (5 squares, or 50 ft.2)
  • One garage door painted (6 squares, or 60 ft.2)
  • 17 squares of siding painted, or 1,700 ft.2
  • 300 ft. of 1 ft. wide soffit
  • 300 ft. of 6 in. wide fascia
  • No gutter removal
  • No construction, siding repairs, or rot repairs

It is important to include the exact specifications of the price presented because each of these bounds outlined can influence the cost.

What factors impact the cost of a home exterior paint project?

Like any home remodeling project, many factors play into the total cost of your project.

To better understand what goes into the cost of your home exterior painting project and know how each aspect influences the cost, we’ll break it down for you.

The total square footage of the outside of your home

The first aspect that heavily influences the cost of your project is the total square footage. The larger area your project is, the more it will cost.

Two exterior doors and one garage door were included to be painted in the specific price presented above. Having your exterior doors, garage door, or other accessories would be an optional but recommended addition depending on your goals for your project and what you are looking to pay.

Soffit and fascia are other areas that are not technically a part of home siding but are often included in an exterior painting project.

The current condition of your existing siding

The second-largest factor that will influence the cost of your painting project is the condition of your current siding, soffit, and fascia.

We can only paint over siding that is in good condition with no cracks or chips. A large threat to siding, soffit, fascia, and substrate to siding is rot, especially if you have wood siding.

If there is any damaged siding or rot in any areas you were looking to have painted, they must be repaired beforehand. This will add anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars to the cost depending on how much damage is present and the degree of the damage.

The color of the paint you choose

Did you know that the color paint you choose can also affect the cost? It’s true.

Darker colored paints, like dark grays, blues, and blacks, can add around $40 per square to the overall cost of your project.

All paint colors must be applied to the proper mil, which is the thickness of the paint. The truth is darker colors fade faster than lighter colors, especially against the harsh Texas sun. Therefore darker colors require more coats in order for the true color to be properly presented.

More coats equal more paint. More paint needed will increase the cost of your project, so this is something to keep in mind if you are looking to paint your home with a darker color.

Preparing for your exterior paint project

Now that you know how much it costs to paint your home’s exterior with Southwest Exteriors, you can feel more comfortable knowing if we are the right contractor for you or not.

When looking at the cost of your project, it’s important to keep in mind what goes into that cost and know what you are paying for. The highest quality contractor is never going to be the least expensive on the market, so if you want a long-term solution for your home’s exterior, you are going to have to pay a little more.

The total square footage, condition of your current siding, and color of the paint are going to influence the cost of your project the most. However, the quality of the contractor and materials used will also add to the cost.

With Southwest Exteriors, we want you to have all the information you can before deciding to work with us, so you don’t waste any time or effort. Because we are more expensive than other contractors, we want you to know what our pricing is like so you can have a better idea of what your project may cost and if we are the right contractor for you.

The quality of our products and the expertise of our services are what set us apart from other exterior painting contractors and are reflected in our pricing.
